Sept 21st, 2015

I was at church by 10 and helped out with security. There was a guest speaker so I didn’t really have to do much. I went home afterwards and read before going to work early to watch the Seahawks game from outside the bar next door. My shift started at halftime. I spent the rest of the game trying to look like I wasn’t watching the game.

It was a slow night, but people came in late making me stay late. I got home around 11:30

August 23rd, 2015

I was at church by 10 because I signed up to help with security. I met the guy in charge and he gave me a headset and told me to watch the kids area to make sure no one picked up a kid who wasn’t supposed to. I spent the service pacing back and forth around the kids building trying to look professional.

After church, we had a quick lunch and then off to the mall to get shirts that don’t make me look like a young homeless Santa Claus.

We got home and I had Rebecca help me shave my head and then we say in front of the fan for the rest of the night. In hindsight, we should have hung out in the air conditioned mall a lot longer.

August 16th, 2015

I woke up a little before noon. Rebecca had already gone to church, and the service was early over so I made breakfast and watched the A-Team. Rebecca got home around 2 and made lunch and then I headed off to work.

It wasn’t a moderately busy shift, but my brain was telling me to keep moving fast like I had been doing in the bar last night. The only problem with moving so fast, is when other people don’t have the same speedy movement and they get in my way. I can’t remember how many times a customer would stand in the aisle right in my way and either move at a snail’s pace, or not at all.

I got home around 11 and watched the A-Team for a while. Around 1 I heard someone banging on the door of a nearby apartment. I turned off all the lights and listened to see if it was going to be a problem or not. I crept outside to investigate, and based off what I had heard, one of the teenagers came home late for curfew and was locked out and trying to wake someone to be let inside. Once I determined there was no threat, I went to sleep.

August 9th, 2015

I went to bed at 4 last night. I left a note for Rebecca telling her not to wake me even if the apartment was on fire. It had been a long shift, and I needed my beauty sleep. She woke me up at 10 to get ready for church, and then again at 10:45.

We made it to church right on time, even though we stopped so could get a coffee because I didn’t have time for breakfast. After church we wen to the grocery store. I was exhausted and hungry, which made me an irritable ball of fun to be around.

We got home and I got ready for work while Rebecca made stuffed peppers for lunch. They were really good, especially for being whole 30 compliant. Once I ate I was much more pleasant, and I apologized for my irritability.

I left for work and started my shift with another coffee. I spent the majority of my night getting things for other people’s tables and doing other people’s side work. We have so many new people who don’t have a grasp on how to do things it has been frustrating.

I got home around 11:30 and relaxed before going to bed.

Aug 2nd, 2015

Rebecca was working in the nursery at church today so she had to be there by 8. I woke up at 10:30, left the house by 11, and made it to church by 11:03. It was the grand opening of the new campus and the place was packed. I was proudly wearing my Seahawks shirt, and met an older couple wearing Mariner’s shirts.

After the service, I went home and cooked up some chicken and sausages on the grill for lunch. I relaxed a bit before heading to work. I was in the bar again tonight. The night shifts are much busier than the morning shifts I have become used to.

We finished closing the bar at 11:40 and I went home, showered and watched Netflix until my brain stopped buzzing.

July 19th, 2015

I woke up at 10 and had leftover spaghetti for breakfast. We drove the 6 blocks to church and on our way home, the connection lady stopped us and told us that the people in charge of the missions, first-aid team, and nursery department would be getting in touch with us sometime this week.

We drove home, had lunch, changed and headed to the store to buy a screen cover for my phone. We left the phone store and headed to a new beach. I had fun splashing around while Rebecca worked on her tan. On our way home we stopped for groceries. Apparently it is national ice cream day so we needed ice cream. I never see this much enthusiasm when it is national hot wing day, or national taco day.

We went home and Rebecca made burgers while I played with my phone and then we watched a movie, during which I fell asleep. Rebecca went to bed at 10 because she had to go to school tomorrow for meetings, and I stayed up learning about the solitary life of the hermit crab.

July 12th, 2015

It is still hot and muggy.

Our church launched a new campus at the high school 4 blocks away from our house. We have been driving 40 minutes across the island, but this is much better. Rebecca signed up to help in the nursery, and I signed up to help with the missions department, and possibly help with security. The service was good, and we met a bunch of new people.

We got home and had leftover pizza for lunch and I got ready for work. Rebecca attacked my knots with the golf balls which helped.

I got to work early. I was scheduled to train someone, but she had called out sick, so I was on my own. It was a mildly busy shift. The hosts were giving me tables out of section, and forgetting to seat people who became upset about the wait times. I ran and hid in the freezer a few times to cool off.

I got home around midnight and watched Netflix and went to bed.

June 28th, 2015

I woke up at 9 and Rebecca and I got ready for church. I fell asleep on the way there.

After church we went home and Rebecca made lunch and I got ready for work. I was training tonight, which I didn’t mind as the trainee had obviously studied and knew the menu. We were in the back of the restaurant with what I called the “JV Squad” of servers. All of the good servers were on the lanai, and we were surrounded with new people. We had a party of 22 people who were in some sort of choir, who felt it necessary to sing during their meal. Once they were done, they wanted to sing a song to the three of us who had served them. It was just as awkward as when people sing “happy birthday” to you. I didn’t know if I should sing along or just stand there.

Once the choir was gone, we got back to waiting tables. I let my trainee take over and I stood back and helped when he needed it. He did a fine job, and I passed him on to the next stage. I ended up leaving around midnight, and went home and straight to bed.

June 7th, 2015

Rebecca woke me up at 9:30 to get ready for church. I made breakfast and we left around 10:30. We arrived and the lobby was filled with the sweet smell of popped corn. They were handing out bags of this popped corn and sodas to anybody who wanted them. The church is in the middle of a series about movies, so they gave out pooped corn and sodas to give it the feeling of being in a theater. The sermon was a condensed version of the movie Elf, with a pre-filmed mini sermons mixed in. It was both entertaining and informational.

After church we headed home. Rebecca has said that she wants to go jogging every day during her summer vacation. I told her to go once we got home, but she said it was too hot and wanted to go later. To prove a point, I donned my jogging clothes and headed out. I haven’t gone running in 6 months, but I managed to go 1.5 miles, only stopping for traffic lights. I was impressed that I was able to go so far. I could have gone further, but my iPod died at the 7th minute, so the only sound I could hear was my breathing, and once I stared listening and focusing on that, I became winded.

I took a shower and ate lunch and then we watched a movie with the fan blowing directly on us because it is so hot. We decided to find a place with air conditioning and settled on the theater where we watched a movie about earthquakes. The two hours inside with air conditioning was a great finish to a good day. We got home around 8 and Rebecca went jogging and I went to Taco Bell and then watched Kick Boxer 2.

May 31st, 2015

I woke up at 10:30 today, which was strange for a Sunday as Rebecca usually starts throwing shoes at me beginning around 9 and continues to do so until I am up and getting ready for church. When I woke up, I gave her an inquisitive look as if to ask why she had let me sleep so late. “I’m sick” she replied, her voice was filled with congestion, and I could tell she wasn’t faking. She had been up for a while, having eaten breakfast, showered, and settled in to watch Lost on her computer. At 11 she tried to watch the church service on her computer, but the servers were down or something so I watched the Saunders game as she cleaned out her computer files.

It has been months since our last trip to the grocery store, and we were running low on supplies. I let Rebecca rest and I took the car out for an adventure. I decided not to go to the Safeway near our house, as it is always full and the lines are too long. I drove instead to the Safeway in Manos, just a few klicks over the ridge. I have been there a few times, but only to use their bathroom, never to buy anything. The store was much older than the gigantic structure we usually visit. The store felt crammed, but it also felt very familiar, like the mom-and-pop grocery store we went to when I was a child.

I bustled around the store, finding everything I needed, and a lot of things I didn’t. When I went to check out, there was no long line to annoy me, just the happy smile of the cashier ready to scan my goods. My shopping cart screamed “bachelor” with chips, soda, frozen dinners, a toothbrush, two packs of a new flavor of Skittles I have yet to try, and shaving cream. I drove home, put away the groceries and placed a frozen lasagna in the oven. I spent the next 70 minutes pacing back and forth in front of out tiny oven waiting impatiently for it to cook. I decided to do the dishes because I have this weird thing about not being able to prepare food if the sink is full of dirty dishes.

Once diner was ready, Rebecca and I sat down to watch Jurassic Park 3. She went to bed and I stayed up watching the “Making Of Jurassic Park 3” and all the behind the scenes extras
