August 19th, 2015

i woke up at 9, and after a quick breakfast took my books to Waikiki where I set up at a picnic table and finished the last chapter I have to read before school starts on Tuesday.

I rode home and made dinner which we ate as soon as Rebecca came home. We then drove to Costco to stock up on chicken and vegetables.

Once we got home, I went right back to my EMT book to review.

Aug 3rd, 2015

I woke up around 9 and had eggs and chorizo for breakfast. I got ready and then rode to the bank, and then went home to make dinner and study. Once Rebecca came home, we had chicken marinated in salsa with mangoes baked with bell peppers and onions. I was ok, not the finest meal I have made.

After dinner we went to Costco where we stocked up on chicken breasts, ground beef, vegetables and various meats that we are able to eat on this diet. I grilled up some sausages s soon as we got home and settled in to study for the rest of the night. My class doesn’t start for another 3 weeks, but I am trying to get a jump start… as much of a jump start as I can give myself after having done the job for almost 6 years. I think I am going to completely stress my self out over this class.

June 22nd, 2015

My phone rang at the wee hours of the morning, at 9 am. It was the pharmacy letting me know that my inhalers were ready for pick up. I made nachos for breakfast and then Rebecca and I headed to Costco to stock up on supplies. I found an 8′ long board for $125. I was tempted to buy it so I could begin to learn how to surf. I can’t live in Hawaii and not surf, it’s like living in France and not drinking wine and smelling like you have bathed. Rebecca and I considered buying the surf board, but we had no way to bring it home, and a surfboard rack for my moped costs $150. I would have to spend more to buy a way to carry the surfboard than I would spend on the actual board. We ended up not buying the surf board, and we got fruit and vegetables instead.

We got home and I washed the 3 months worth of bird feces off of Rebecca’s car and got ready for work. I got to work early and had chicken strips and garlic bread for lunch. The shift started out slow, and didn’t get much busier. I spent the majority of the night helping out the bartenders. Most of my tables were non English speaking, so I had a lot of free time.

I got home around 11:30 and watched documentaries on gangs on Netflix before going to bed.

May 3rd, 2015

We woke up and Rebecca made breakfast while I sat on the bed trying to wake up. We left early enough for us to stop so I could get coffee before we headed to church. The coffee worked because as soon as we got there I had to go try to clog the porcelain pony.

After church, we went home and Rebecca made lunch and then we headed to Costco to stock up on eggs, lemon juice and chicken. I had tried to sneak a 48 count box of pop tarts into the cart which Rebecca found once we got to the checkout line. I looked at the check out lady, handed her the box and said “I’m not allowed to get the pop tarts” and then I looked at the ground like a scolded puppy. The lady laughed. We bought a large bottle of lemon juice to add flavor to my water for the rest of the whole 30 diet, but we didn’t realize it was supped to come in a 2-pack. We now have 1/2 a gallon of lemon juice. I said “we can have lemon flavored everything, except pop tarts”. This made the checker, bagger and Rebecca burst out in to laughter for about 10 minutes while I stood there with a single tear falling down my rosy cheek.

As we walked through the parking lot, we were steps from our car when a lady pulled in next to us, but she came in at such an angle that there was les than an inch between our cars. I politely went to her door as she was getting out and said “we can’t leave if you keep your car parked like that.” She got out to look as if to prove me wrong. When she couldn’t fit her finger between the cars she acted surprised and I had to help back her out. I am surprised she didn’t hit us. Once she had backed out, all the scrapes along her side walls and fenders made me think that she was not the best at parking. We went home, put away the Costco groceries and then went to Safeway to get everything else we needed, but didn’t need 100 of.

We got home, grabbed snacks and then went to the cinema to watch a movie about monkeys. It was not a fictional movie, it was a nature documentary about a group of monkeys living in the jungle of Sri Lanka. I was more excited about watching monkeys than I have been for anything else in months.

After the Oscar worthy movie, we went home and I did some research on the movie. Rebecca was not surprised to find out that most of the action sequences were not scripted. I grabbed a few spoonful’s of almond butter and dehydrated bananas as my dinner and Rebecca made her lunches for the week before going to bed. I am debating on climbing Koo Head tomorrow morning. I haven’t made up my mind yet.

March 26th, 2015

I have finally gotten used to typing the year as 2015 instead of 2014, it only took almost 4 months.

Rebecca had the day off today, as did almost everybody in the state of Hawaii who does not work in the service or tourism industry. We started off the day by me waking up at 9 and unable to fall asleep. I went to the other room so I would not wake up Rebecca who came out to join me around 10:30. We had no food in the house so we drove to Starbucks for breakfast and then back to the yarn store so she could buy thimbles and ribbon. I stayed in the car rocking out to Japanese pop music.

We made our way to Costco where I got more of my sleeping medication and we stocked up on food for the house. We were in there for maybe an hour, but it felt like an eternity because of all the people. We finally made it home and I relaxed before work.

I was training again tonight, something I didn’t know until I got there. It was the same guy I trained on Tuesday. He was on his second to last day of training so I have him my key card for the computer and followed him around. I only jumped in to say something if he absolutely needed it, otherwise I didn’t have to talk to any customers… it was a pretty good shift.

The training system is going through an overhaul. They are now being held to a lesser standard as far as menu knowledge than when I started training. By the 4th day of training, if I had not memorized the entire menu I would have been sent home to study before coming back to repeat the training day. No one really knows what the standard is for the trainees because management hasn’t made it clear to us yet. I figure until they tell me what the standard is, I will just keep passing my trainees. He did a really good job, I would have passed hi either way, but somehow he managed to do 5 training shifts in the morning, and this was his first night time shift. The lunch crowd can get a little rowdy, but night time is a completely different animal.

I made it home just before midnight, and spent the next 2 1/2 hours playing super hero games.

Feb 5th, 2015

I woke up around 9 and started getting ready for work. My parents came baby on their way to the airport to say goodbye. I had a lot of fun taking them around the island and finding new spots.

I got to work and started my shift. The entire day I was counting down until I could go home. It was a bar shift, which made the time pass quickly, but I still would rather been on a beach somewhere.

I got home around 6 and Rebecca and I headed to Costco. We stopped at a burrito place because I needed some comfort food and burritos usually cheer me up. After we ate, I was feeling better, but my stomach was angry at me for eating everything I haven’t eaten for the past month on the diet. I had to use the bathroom at Costco, which typically only happens after I eat a Costco hot dog. We bought a bunch of food for the next 7 years and then went home and went to bed.

Jan 21st, 2015

I woke up and notched Rebecca was stilt sleeping. I thought about waking her up to remind her that she had school today, but realized that she had probably called out sick. Once I had eaten, I went to work to trade shifts with another bartender for tomorrow night. He was taking my morning shift and I was working his night shift. The managers said we couldn’t switch because another new bartender was already working and they didn’t want two new people behind the bar bumping in to each other.

I rode into Waikiki and spent the next three hours going from hotel bar to hotel bar, and even some of the weird back-alley bars looking for a place to watch the Super Bowl next week. I didn’t find anything that looked suitable. The only one that looked ok was at Round Table Pizza, and that was simply a sad looking bar with 5 TVs and a required $25 reservation fee.

I went home, took Rebecca’s car and drove to Costco where I spent the next 90 minutes wandering the aisles looking for fords that I could eat during my diet. Of course the time I go there on a diet that doesn’t allow dairy is the same time they are giving out samples of various cheeses.

I drove home, dropped off the groceries and then headed to Safeway to buy the rest of the things I needed for the week. On the way home I got Rebecca’s prescription, filled her gas tank, washed the windows and checked the oil. Once I penned the hood I saw a shopping bag’s worth of dead leaves and random bird feathers in the air intake vent. I cleared those out and then went back home.

I spent the rest of the evening on the couch watching a documentary about the Vietnam war.

Jan 5th, 2015

I woke up and Rebecca had gone to her school for a work day on the farm. I rode my moped to the shop because the odometer cable had broken and I couldn’t tell how fast I was going. I walked home while they fixed it and then walked back about an hour later. I stopped at the whole foods market and got snacks for the movie I was planning to see but hadn’t told Rebecca about.

Rebecca got home around 1:45 and we headed to the cinema to watch a movie about museum artifacts that come to life at night. After the movie we went to Costco where we bought enough meat and veggies to last us for about 2 weeks of this whole 30 diet. Rebecca will be doing the diet with me beginning next week.

We got home, put the groceries away and I grilled up some chicken and asparagus for dinner.

Nov 3rd, 2014

I woke up and headed in to work after polishing off two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I arrived about 20 minutes early and spent my time practicing my pours. Once the shift started I was keeping myself busy. Right around 3:30 they realized that I was very close to the 40 hour mark and they sent me packing. I got home, showered and watched an episode of the Simpsons while I waited for Rebecca to arrive.

She came home and we headed to Costco where I exchanged the pair of swim trunks I purchased yesterday for a pair that fit more comfortably. They fit fine in the waist, I just have muscular thighs from walking around so much. I prefer a loser fit anyway. After the exchange, we went to the Costco food court for dinner. I got a polish dog, a slice of pizza and a turkey Panini. I ate the polish and half of the slice of pizza and then packed the rest of it up to eat for breakfast. Our fabulous dinner date cost under $10, I’m going to have to remember this place.

We got home and I did a load of laundry while we watched the latest episode of the Walking Dead, and then I watched an explanation show about the show while Rebecca read a book.

November 2nd, 2014

We woke up and headed to church, as soon as we started walking towards the building I realized two very big problems. The first problem was that I had left my phone at home and I would be unable to check the scores of the football games. The second problem was that my fly was down. I was able to quickly and covertly fix the wardrobe malfunction, but I would have to wait until later to find out who won.

After church we went home so I could get my phone and then we drove to Costco to wander around and sample things we have already had before, all the while pretending this was our first time trying strawberry yogurt. We had the Seahawks game on the radio and I was feeling pretty confident. We made it home in time for me to watch the 4th quarter while I made lunch and did the dishes. After the game, I got ready for work and headed in. It was a very slow start so I practiced pouring. I have a 1ounce jigger and I have to count out anything over 1 ounce. Most of our drinks have either 1 1/4 ounces, or 1 1/2 ounces of each liquor. I started off horribly but was getting the hang of it by the time my next table got sat.

To pass the time, I filled a small ramekin with ginger ale and Mountain Dew, and warmed it up in hot water while the carbonation fizzled out. Once I was satisfied with the color and warmth, I walked up to my manager and tried to hand him my “drug test”. Even with the lid, I still had warm soda spilling out all over my hands. We all had a good laugh.

It was a slow night and they sent me home early because I picked up a shift Friday morning that will end up putting me into overtime by Monday. They really do not like paying overtime wages, and we can get into a lot of trouble if we go over 40 hours in a week.

I got home around 10 and Rebecca was just getting ready for bed. I watched a movie and then went to bed.
