I was up at 6:30, and at work by 7:30. One of the managers who closed last night was also opening today so I had him send me his coffee order. He left last night at 1:30, and returned to work at 6, he lives 40 minutes away.

I started my morning prep and didn’t have my first customer until 10:30. My back up bartender arrived at 11 and took over the tables while I made drinks. The restaurant was busy, which meant I was making a lot of drinks, but the bar was slow, which meant we weren’t making a lot in tips. I volunteered to stay an entrap hour so the other bartender could take care of some stuff at home. I left around 5:30, went home and went straight to the shower to wash off 9 hours of sweat, fruit juice, beer and liquor.

Rebecca made chicken and we watched a show on Netflix while I took a nap. Once she went to bed, I did a load of laundry, which was 3 days overdue, and ordered 2 pair of EMT pants for $75 each, which I will need for class. I still have to buy 2 shirts at $70 each, but that will have to wait until after payday.

I watched more of the documentary about cocaine wars and went to bed around 1.

July 20th, 2015

I woke up at 10 and after a quick breakfast, drove to the moped repair shop for my tune-up. I walked home and prepared dinner while I waited on my moped. The tune-up took longer than expected so I watched a movie while I waited for the call.

I left around 4, picked up my inhaler, grabbed my moped, drove to the eye doctor and picked up my left contacts as the right ones were temporarily misplaced. I then drove to a uniform shop to inquire about pricing for my uniform for EMT school. Each shirt is $70, and the trousers are $67. I decided to see if I could find something cheaper online.

I rode home, started dinner and began watching a nature program on Netflix. After dinner I continued my show, but fell asleep. I was watching salmon fight off bears and woke up to a lion taking down a wildebeest. I ended up going to bed around 11.

June 29th, 2015

I woke up around 9 and had something for breakfast… oh yeah, Rebecca scrambled some eggs and I covered them with salsa and wrapped it up in a tortilla. I bummed around the apartment for a couple hours, called my doctor to ask him to refill my blood pressure and sleeping medications.

At 1:30 I headed into town on my moped to attend a CPR class which is a prerequisite for the EMT program. Most CPR classes are 4-6 hours of practice, watching videos and listening to questions from students who have defied the laws of natural selection and in spite of their lack of common sense, they are still walking around amongst us and making new generations of human door-stops. This class was advertised as being fast, and that was the biggest selling point. I had pre-registered and paid the $75 fee last night. When I had arrived for class, I was told that I needed the class today, as well as a second class which they would happily set me up with at the end of the first class. This was no fault of the company, but mostly the American Heart Association for making so many different levels of CPR cards, and the school for requiring me to have two separate cards. The first class was basic CPR and first aid, it was over in 2 hours. The second class, which was just the instructor and myself was much quicker than the 4-6 hours I was anticipating. Since I have had CPR cards in the past, and I have actually performed CPR on real people more times than I care to remember, and since I didn’t have to waste time asking stupid questions, I was home by 5. Sure I had to pay for 2 classes, but not having to sit in a classroom for 8-12 hors was defiantly worth it.

On my way home, I stopped at the grocery store to pick up tortillas, and all of the food Rebecca doesn’t let me buy when I go shopping with her. I watched a movie about two guys who crash weddings to pick up girls while we had dinner and then I started watching Top Gun. I used to love the soundtrack for that movie when I was little, I don’t think I have actually seen the movie in 15 years or so. Once the movie finished, I headed to the pharmacy to see if my doctor had sent in the refill authorizations for my prescriptions. Ha had not. This is not the first time I have had to wait for him to authorize a refill. Last time my inhaler was out, and I called 7 or 8 times within a few days to see when they were going to let me get anew inhaler. I had one of his secretaries yell at me saying they would call me when they authorized the prescription, and to stop calling. I think its time for a new doctor.

I went home after a little drive to clear my head, and then I settled in to watch a documentary on Netflix.

In the middle of Top Gun, for no apparent reason, I thought about making a cooking show. Each week I could make a different recipe of corn products. One week it would be corn on the cob, the next week it would be about popcorn, and significance of popcorn at the movies, the next week would be corn tortillas, or corn bread. Each episode would be about corn, and the title of the show would be called CORNography. The logo for the show could be a piece of corn, with the stalk coming off reveling a bikini top of some sort… I haven’t worked out all the details yet, but my hope is to make a show and sell it to one of the cooking networks, or one of those other networks who have run out of ideas, and are just buying up reality shows.

I woke up promptly at 10:30 and ate leftover pizza for breakfast. I got an electronic mail last night telling me which book I need to buy for the EMT class, as well as letting me know where to but the uniform I will need for school. I used to own 6 pair of EMT pants, but they have vanished over the years and now I need to spend a bunch of money to buy more.

I watched Gangland and slowly got ready for work. I left earlier than usual and got into an imaginary argument with the general manager in my head before I got to work, which really helped me be in a good mood for my shift.

I was in an ok section, but had really bad tipping tables. I had a few leave 5% or less. I spent a majority of the time helping the bartenders because most of my tables didn’t speak English, and there isn’t much I could do to improve their experience, or get to know them.

I left around 11:30 and went home and watched Man Vs. Wild before going to bed.

June 23rd, 2015

I woke up around 10 and made quesadillas for breakfast. I watched an episode or two of Gangland on the Netflix and went to water my lawn. One of the neighbor ladies whose two kids are always running around screaming seemed upset that I was making mud along the back side of our unit. If she is so worried about her kids getting muddy, she should teach them to not go behind our apartment.

I went inside and took a shower and got ready for work. I had a trainee tonight who showed up early and had actually studied the menu. The shift started out slow, but we were in a busy section. She knew what she was doing so I just stood in the background making sure nothing went wrong.

I left around 11:30 and went home to work on my novel about a young boy who is released from prison for embezzling money from his junior high’s bake sale, and spends his days at diners hoping to woo a waitress with his juggling skills. The only problem is that he was born with feet for hands and can’t juggle. I still need to work out the finer points of the plot.

June 22nd, 2015

My phone rang at the wee hours of the morning, at 9 am. It was the pharmacy letting me know that my inhalers were ready for pick up. I made nachos for breakfast and then Rebecca and I headed to Costco to stock up on supplies. I found an 8′ long board for $125. I was tempted to buy it so I could begin to learn how to surf. I can’t live in Hawaii and not surf, it’s like living in France and not drinking wine and smelling like you have bathed. Rebecca and I considered buying the surf board, but we had no way to bring it home, and a surfboard rack for my moped costs $150. I would have to spend more to buy a way to carry the surfboard than I would spend on the actual board. We ended up not buying the surf board, and we got fruit and vegetables instead.

We got home and I washed the 3 months worth of bird feces off of Rebecca’s car and got ready for work. I got to work early and had chicken strips and garlic bread for lunch. The shift started out slow, and didn’t get much busier. I spent the majority of the night helping out the bartenders. Most of my tables were non English speaking, so I had a lot of free time.

I got home around 11:30 and watched documentaries on gangs on Netflix before going to bed.

June 10th, 2015

I woke up at 8:30 and saw someone going through my wallet talking money out, once I realized it was Rebecca getting money for lunch, I was relieved, but still managed to yell out “get out of there” like one would yell at a pack of wild raccoons digging through a trash bin at 3 in the morning. I tried to go back to sleep but I was now up for the day.

I made breakfast and watched another episode of the show about the 8 people being connected mentally. The first 4 episodes were great, but right in the middle of the 5th episode things got… uncomfortable. I shrugged it off and went to work. I started off in a slow section but managed to talk myself into a busier section halfway through the shift. I won two contests today. The first one was like bingo. Each time we sold an item that was on the card we crossed it off until we had 5 in a row. It took me an hour and a half to win bingo. The second contest was to see who could sell the most items from our summer promotional menu. I ended up leaving with a $20 Starbucks card and a free lunch.

I left around 5, I took the lunch home in a to-go box and went for a run. Rebecca was asleep when I got home. I guess she didn’t sleep well last night, and wasn’t feeling well. I ran for 12 1/2 minutes and then spent sometime outside watering the grass behind out apartment trying to get it to fill in. I ate the lunch I had won and then when Rebecca woke up I took a shower and settled in to watch more of the show. Rebecca went to bed around 9,and I stayed up playing Tetris on my phone.

June 9th, 2015

Today is the 15th anniversary of my high school graduation. I remember falling asleep during the ceremony, which was fitting because I slept through most of my classes. There was one day in particular where I managed to take a nap during each of my 6 classes. In guitar class, I hugged the guitar and leaned back in my chair and fell asleep, in shop, I just laid my head down on a bench and fell asleep while other people were busy cutting stuff. In English I opened a book and laid my head on my bag to look like I was reading, same thing in history class. Home economics was an easy nap because the teacher was oblivious, and a little bit crazy. The biggest accomplishment for the day was taking all of the extra mats and falling asleep in the weight room during weight training.

I remember falling asleep in my first period geometry class junior year. I had my head on my back pack and I must have been snoring because the teacher, who was also my wrestling and football coach lifted my head up by my hair. There was a significant puddle of drool on the bag and the noise one of the girls yelling “Ewwww” woke me up, a mere second before the teacher relaxed his grasp of my hair sending my head back in to the puddle of drool.

I woke up at 10 and did my usual routine of breakfast, coughing and yelling about robots and then I found a show on Netflix that had me hooked. It is about 8 people from around the world who suddenly become connected mentally and they can share each other’s experiences. Before I knew it, I had to go to work. I was training someone today so I had to be on my best behavior.

The shift started out slow, and stayed that way. The trainee did a really impressive job and even improved during the shift. We left around midnight and I went home to watch another episode of Sense8 before going to bed. I have to be at work really early tomorrow at noon.

Jan 4th, 2015

We woke up around 9:30 and got ready for church. I drove because I have gotten used to driving everywhere, we arrived early. The service was good, but because I have been drinking so much water on this whole 30 diet, I had to pee the moment the sermon started. I was able to hold it in. The very second the sermon ended I bolted from my chair and ran to the restroom.

On the way home we stopped to look at filing cabinets at the office supply store and then we went home to make lunch. Rebecca and I talked about attending the membership class at the church, but she seemed hesitant. On Christmas day we were driving around and listening to sermons on the radio. There was a speaker that we both found really interesting and insightful. I looked him up and found that he has a rather large church towards the west side of the island. The church we attend now is only 10 minutes from our house, but Rebecca wanted to check out the other church before we commit to membership.

I got ready for work while Rebecca started a massive Friends marathon on Netflix. I arrived early and got ready for my shift. There were only two bartenders on tonight, and I have been working mostly mornings so I felt rushed most of the night.

I was working with the head bartender. It was the first time working with him since my training. He is about my age and we have similar interests I had a great time working with him because we passed the time taking about football.

I got home around 12:30 and headed to bed.

April 24th, 2014

I woke up at 9 and had something for breakfast, I don’t remember what it was.

It was my day off and I was planning to enjoy it. I spent around 2 hours riding around Waikiki looking at various hotels so I would be able to make educated suggestions for places to stay when people come to visit.

I finished up and ride around Diamond Head and just kept riding. I passes Hanauma Bay and as soon as I crested the hill, I was met with a fierce head wind which slowed me down to 20 MPH. I pressed on past Sandy Beach and noticed the speed limit was 45. I have only gotten the moped going 45 MPH once, going downhill with a tail wind. I decided I shouldn’t tie up traffic so I headed home to get started on dinner.

I prepared some non spicy curry sauce and started thawing chicken and then I checked Facebook. One of my coworkers was desperately trying to get the night off even though her shift started in one hour. Being a kind coworker, and needing the money, I picked up her shift and scrambled to get ready.

I started work and it was a very slow start, but around 8 we got a late rush. In the last 2 hours I sold more food and beverages than I did in the first 4 hours.

One of my tables came to find me after they were leaving to shake my hand and tell me that I had given he and his family the best service they have ever had. All I really did was joke around with the kids at the table, but it was a great complement.

I finished up around 11 and headed home. Rebecca was already asleep so I watched a show on Netflix and went to bed around 2.
